Welcome!!!

Welcome to the English Pronunciation and Phonetic Principles course! I am honored to be your teacher and expect to learn just as much from you as you will from me and your partners. The overall goal of this course is for you to be able to recognize and produce English sounds with proper intonation, basic concepts of phonetics, production of speech sounds, the phonetic alphabet, word-level and sentence-level stress, intonation in English, and pronunciation practice will be the core components of this course.

Materials for the course
This course requires for you to get the following book:
Gilbert, J. (2005). Clear Speech. Pronunciation and listening comprehension in North American English. Cambridge: CUP.
Other readings and exercises for the course will be available in the copy center called “fotocopias la u”.
You are also asked to have
to get headphones so that you can use them once you be ready to create your podcasts.

Assignment Overview & Grading
A blog called Pronufans is used as a communication tool in this course. It is your responsibility to check it frequently to ensure you are meeting all class requirements. It will be crucial for your success in this semester to plan your time. As you are supposed to work independently 6 hours per week, you should start from day one learning and using time management strategies. Not only does this include planning, but it also includes your being responsible for your own learning, for reflecting, and for adjusting by finding different strategies that work for you. Such strategies will be intertwined in this course and you should not only try them but consider how you can incorporate them into your own classes.. Don’t forget to utilize the resources available to you:
• Course books
• University library
• University resource center
• Blog
• Your partners
• Your instructor
